Deliverables
A folded leaflet containing the main features of the project (presented in a similar way than what is presented on the website) will be produced. This brochure is aimed at presentation of the project e.g. by distribution of the brochure at scientific meetings. An electronic version of the brochure will also be provided on the project website for download. Task 8.2
First online version of network public websiteThis deliverable describes website and the intranet created for external and internal communication about and on the project. The password protected intranet will serve the purpose of project internal data exchange and information (e.g. on scientific events, reporting deadlines, published papers, repository of previous deliverables and reports). The project’s website will be made publicly available and it will contain information on the project’s partners, current activities and events, recent developments and scientific publications, as well as contact information for stakeholders. Due date: intranet (month 3); public website (month 6) and updates. Task 8.2
This deliverable is related to earlier D2.2. In addition to in vitro SOP also other key methods will be harmonized. This will enable high comparability between the laboratories for the results. However, in the present project, there are multiple different approaches that are not even possible to be harmonized. This will be covered e.g. by measuring same inflammatory markers from various models and exposure conditions
Report on the investigation of exposure to metal oxides and other biomarkers in 100 cases of AD and 100 controlsBased on the epidemiological studies and comparison to the in vitro and in vivo studies biomarkers in the study subjects are being investigated The success is dependent on the recruitment of study subjects Task 53
Report on acute and long term pulmonary effects of traffic derived UFP in miceBoth acute and longerterm lung effects will be measured and assessed For the shortterm effects no major obstacles are expected however long term effect simulation may be more challenging With all the expertise in the participating organizations it is foreseen that we are able to successfully conduct also this more challenging part Task 25
Report on the comparative toxicities of transportations source pollutants in vitroAt the end of the project we will compile the data and compare the results from different transport modes engines and fuels This is overarching goal of the aerosol toxicology research of the project and we expect to meet the goals in several areas of toxicology research including brain and lung effects as well as genotoxicity in the cells and organs Likelihood for extensive highquality dataset is very high Task 24
Human chamber studies on exposure to traffic related nanoparticles in association with cognitive function and olfactory functionUme university has long experience on conducting human exposures studies and has the valid license for continuing the work The human studies are greatly adding the significance of the in vitro and in vivo evaluations of the UFP As a result we will have a good overview indicating the effects in olfactory system and cognition after controlled exposures The deliverable is dependent on the recruitment of the study subjects Task 52
Report on the effects of traffic related UFPs on global gene expression and epigenetic profiles of hOMCsThis deliverable refers to task 32 The aim is to identify cellular pathways and DNA methylation patterns altered by UFP exposure in hOMCs Given the experience of partner UEF in culturing hOMCs and partner IEM in NGS and DNA methylation analyses the likelihood of success is high Task 33
Epidemiological studies of traffic related nanoparticles in association with AD and the olfactory systemResults from the epidemiological studies will be based mostly on the reanalyzing the results from the previous studies It will link them to the new findings and the results are potentially giving significant new information of the human health responses to UFP The risk of failure is low Task 51
Advice on mitigation strategiesThis task is one of the overarching goals of the project After the extensive emission measurements and the set of respiratory genotoxic and neurotoxic effects of UFP are known These are reported according to the gained results and the content of the advisory report is dependent on the Task 63
Data sets for ambient particle concentrations and size distributions from 1.3 nm to 100 nm.Due Dates M6, M30 This deliverable is based on the field campaigns in different source environments, traffic, airport, port. TUT has conducted successfully this kind of campaigns previously, thus ensuring high quality of the measured data from different environments. Task 1.2

Report on acute genotoxicity of very small nanoparticles in vitro and in miceThe report will be prepared from the experiments conducted with the very small nanoparticles in the mice. The results will be compared to the corresponding report from the cell cultures. Both of the exposure conditions being the core of the project, we expect this not to have major hurdles. This can be measured as a ready report. Task 2.3
Report on the neurotoxic, neurodegenerative and AD- promoting effects of UFPs in miceThis report is both an update of the D34 and also an overview of the results on the in vivo experiments of the whole project The report will be compiled between all the partners doing the in vivo experiments The report is based on the available results and the success is mainly based on the collaboration between the partners This report will be done independent on what the project results are thus making the risk of nonexistence negligible This report will provide new potentially groundbreaking results on the UFP effects on the brain Task 36
SOP for ALI-based testing of small nanoparticlesStandard operating procedure for the cell cultures and endpoints in conducting air liquid interface exposes will be prepared. This will increase the comparability between the laboratories. The SOP will include harmonization of cell cultures and measured endpoints. The results will be assessed with sufficient caution, because there are multiple variables affecting the exposure and cell culture conditions. Measure of success is the ready instructions (SOP) for ALI exposures. Task 2.1
Support and collaboration in epidemiology and environmental medicine for investigations of cognitive function in association to air pollution exposure in the study Guangzhou, ChinaThe results from the epidemiological studies in Europe are compared to those in China The extent of Guangzhou study is dependent on the parallel funding in China MOST Both projects will be receiving support from each other and complement the results Task 54
Report on the neurotoxic effects of UFPs in mice following inhalation exposureThis report is focusing on the effects in whole organism with the focus on building link between UFP exposure and adverse effects in central nervous system. It is also acts as the interim update for the project, directing the more mechanistically focused further experiments. Thus, the experiments in the second half of the project are guided by this report, which is making the report an important one. There should not be any obstacles to compile the report. Task 3.4
Initial press releaseAt the beginning of the project, an initial press release will be prepared describing the overall goals and ambition of the project and announcing the start of the project. The press release will be initially published on the UEF webpage and will be distributed to all project partners for publication on their individual webpages. Task 8.1
Detailed dissemination and communication planThe Dissemination and Communication Plan outlines the strategy for the dissemination and the communication activities, which will be carried out during the project. This deliverable also details the main dissemination objectives, the target audiences, the communication channels and the dissemination tools. The document include the definitions of the main key performance indicators that will be used to measure the effectiveness and efficiency of the activities carried out. Task 8.1
